Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Parent Consult

IEP meetings can be overwhelming. My goal is to ensure you feel empowered, supported, and well-informed about your child’s abilities and challenges. I offer tools and strategies that can significantly improve your ability to:
    • Ask pertinent questions
    • Grasp the school team’s terminology
    • Advocate effectively for your child. This involves reviewing assessment reports, diagnostic tests, and rating scales to enhance your advocacy skills.

Special Education Advocacy during IEP meetings:

I can offer my support during your student’s IEP meetings, helping to guide you through this complex process. As someone who understands education laws and the child’s rights, I can sure that you understand the proposed services, accommodations, and goals outlined in your student’s Individualized Education Program. I can also help to articulate concerns, ultimately striving to secure the best possible educational outcomes for the child.

Parent coaching:

Parent coaching involves a partnership that aids parents in navigating the complexities of child-rearing. It offers personalized guidance, tools, and strategies to address individual family dynamics. The primary aim is to strengthen parent-child bonds, foster better communication, and refine parenting abilities, fostering an enriching and supportive home atmosphere.

IEP and School Consultation for Parents

Navigating IEP meetings and the special education process can be overwhelming for families. My goal is to ensure parents feel empowered, supported, and well-informed about their child’s abilities and challenges.

I work collaboratively with families and schools, emphasizing a positive team approach with the student’s best interest guiding all decisions. I know that sometimes important steps can be missed or corners can be cut, and parents may not always know what is typical or acceptable in the school system. I am here to be a knowledgeable support person throughout the process.

My consultation services include:

  • Preparing parents for IEP and other school meetings by reviewing student records, assessment reports, and educational plans
  • Coaching parents on how to ask pertinent questions and understand school team terminology
  • Supporting effective communication and advocacy for appropriate services, accommodations, and goals
  • Attending school meetings (when requested) to help articulate concerns and ensure parents understand their rights and options
  • Helping identify areas where a student’s needs may not be fully addressed and guiding parents on what they can reasonably request

Together, we work with the school as a team, always keeping the student’s best interest at the center.
